Lazy Robot

Despite day five being our going-home day, we had managed to get afternoon flights so had a full morning to kill. We did this by climbing up to the top of the astronomical clock tower to get some lovely paramatic views of Prague. 063/365 This here is the Týn Church, which is my favourite building in Prague. I just love the scale of it, and how it completely dwarfs the five and six storey buildings around it. Also, lots of pointy bits, like fractal spires. 064/365 To get to the airport we took the Metro, seeing as the station was right under our hotel. This is the rather smashing wall decoration at Staroměstská station. I love how every Metro station is uniquely and interestingly decorated. And so we said goodbye to Prague, for now. I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Day 4, and time for the hotly anticipated, constantly referenced, and totally genius Afternoon River Cruise With Cake & A Drink. 061/365 The boat went up and down the Vltava river for two hours letting us take in the sights, sounds and sometimes smells of Prague. From pretty old bits to crumbly broken bits to rusty steel bits, we got a bit of everything. And more than a little hint that the Czech people are fond of jazz. 062/365 Later on, once the sun went down, we headed out to watch the city by night. Charles Bridge was lit up brightly and was as busy at night as it was at any time in the day.   The cake consisted of a piece of rather lumpy Tiramisu and a gigantic Jammie Dodger. Despite further comestibles and potables being available for procurement, we managed to make our cake, biscuit and half pint of Budvar last for 2 hours. Because we're from Yorkshire. Day three was much anticipated. We finally got to go to the amazing Prague Zoo. It's absolutely massive, and only costs a fiver to get in. We timed it perfectly and managed to hit just about every enclosure at feeding time. 059/365 Nom, indeed. 060/365 To get to the zoo we had to take the Metro. Here are the terrifyingly steep, deep escalators.   Here are a couple more pics from the zoo, just because I like them. The penguin was a proper show-off, scudding up and down his pond like a maniac. He occasionally whizzed passed the glass-sided bit of tank so I could snap him on his way through. The giraffe babies look very cuddly and cute, but they were both six feet tall so perhaps standing at a distance was best.

Last week we went on a jolly jaunt to Prague. It was very nice. Sub-zero temperatures didn't slow us down one bit. 055/365 The astronomical clock tower was one of our first ports of call, just to remind us where we were. 056/365 Then a spot of dinner at Skořepka, where a wagon was hung from the ceiling. Disturbingly, it didn't appear to be anchored at all, but instead was free-standing on suspended rails. Scary. 057/365 A large shopping centre was soon discovered. It was very deep. Ground level only had 2 storeys, but beneath were another 3. Bonkers, and just a little vertiginous. 058/365 At a safer height above sea level, the little market between Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square is still the best place to buy tiny astronomical clocks.
